I always loved the idea of Rapunzel being a painter, as I love art, and was so pleased to discover that Disney carried that in their rendition of the tale as well.While Rapunzel was once doing Gothel's tea, she accidentally discovered a basement filled with many things from Gothel's past in the basement invitations for all the many balls Gothel went to, a painting of Gothel and Wilhelm (the latter of who's face was torn) and a silver hairbrush given to Rapunzel from her biological parents on her first birthday. She also gained the service of a ferret named Otto and a dragon named Hugo (who's daughter Penelope is friends with Rapunzel).Because Disney only recently made a film based on the classic tale of Rapunzel, as a child I enjoyed this fairytale through Barbie's representation. Gothel made Rapunzel her own servant to keep the manor in perfect order (including doing a lot of chores in and outside of the manor and also made Rapunzel serve her tea (all the while claiming that she had found Rapunzel abandoned at only a few days old).

After failing to further get the "truth" out of Rapunzel, Gothel soon found her dressed up for a party (Stefan's 18th birthday party) and found that Rapunzel had painted using her magic paintbrush (initially the silver hairbrush transformed). When she left on Hugo, she warned Rapunzel it would worsen if she wouldn't say the young man's name.During a visit to the village, Gothel saw the aftermath of one of Wilhelm's several acts of destruction against Frederick's kingdom (the fact that they were destroying each other, she was pleased about). Although Rapunzel attempted to state that she honestly didn't know it (which was correct), Gothel refused to believe this and destroyed Rapunzel's paintings and brushes while transforming Rapunzel's room into a tall tower without exits in an attempt to get the truth out of her.
In the center of a maze, Stefan chased Gothel and she revealed her true face and spoke to him. She chained Hugo to a wall and flew to Stefan's castle.When Stefan saw who he thought was Rapunzel, he followed her. After again failing to get Stefan's name, and Gothel - while having stolen Rapunzel's hair - cast a horrible spell on Rapunzel's tower to keep her locked in it forever.
Gothel blasted off Wilhelm who attempted to attack her in anger of what she did and tried to kill everyone in the ballroom, but Rapunzel, Penelope, and Hobie appeared. Gothel came in the ballroom, where King Frederick and King Wilhelm were fighting.Gothel blasted their swords out of their hands and revealed she was King Wilhelm's ex-lover who kidnapped Rapunzel as revenge. Stefan's little sisters and brother wanted to help Stefan, but Gothel attacked them, and they ran away.
Gothel herself does nothing for it and instead she rides a horse, drinks tea that has to be done in six minutes, and has 'beauty naps'. She is very captious, and if there is a single squeaking step on the staircase, she screamed at Rapunzel because it was Rapunzel's duty to watch over the manor. She is shown to be very cruel, bossy, ruthless, violent, petty, ungrateful and hypocritical. Gothel was forced to stay in the tower, and she made Otto her new servant.Gothel hates liars, but she is one herself. Gothel got into the tower but could not escape because the spell Gothel cast on the tower was "never release your prisoner with a lying heart," and she lied several times.
She has gray hair pulled back into a bun style. Even though Wilhelm was the one she wanted revenge on, she also had no qualms about involving innocents (Rapunzel in kidnapping her and Frederick to be the blame for Rapunzel's disappearance, even showing amusement at the latter).Gothel's appearance is different from most other female characters. Because of this, she failed to consider other possibilities. She is also narrow-minded, which led her to falsely believing that Rapunzel is lying to her when she says she doesn't know Stefan's name (when in truth, Rapunzel is telling the truth). She is also a hypocrite when it comes to ungratefulness as she often accuses Rapunzel of being ungrateful to her when she herself never rewarded Rapunzel’s kindness with kindness. She is hypocritical when lying because she doesn't like being lied to, but she has no qualms about lying to other people herself.
The green part also slopes down into a small V at the back of the bodice, showing a little of the red underneath. The sleeves are bell-shaped, and there are straight red sleeves underneath. The top layer is dark green with yellow furry trim around the skirt's neck, sleeves, and bottom. The top layer of the dress is full length, everywhere except the very front center that points up into a V, showing the red layer underneath. Its collar covers all of her neck.
Despite this, the most notable of her spells are her final enchantments that she puts on the tower to "never release a prisoner with a lying heart", which locked her in the tower forever. Gothel also chained Hugo to a wall to prevent him from freeing Rapunzel or disturbing her plans. She cuts off her beautiful hair just using the magic in her fingertips instead of scissors. She destroyed Rapunzel's most beloved painting on her wall and her paintbrush. She is also wearing Otto around her neck and the piece of hair she cut off Rapunzel at the tower.Gothel is an extremely powerful witch, capable of memorable feats of magic, because she uses dark magic which manifests in a green hue, to trap Rapunzel in a tower. It is dark green, with a similar pattern to the dress.
"Never release your prisoner with a lying heart. In the Latin American dub, Gothel's name is changed to Greta. Fortunately, all of these spells were undone when she was trapped forever in the tower.
